I am excited that I will soon experience for the first time the American Holiday of Thanksgiving.
Last Saturday, Paul and Lauren, my sponsors from Boston, were visiting Washington DC. They invited me to an impressive pre-Thanksgiving party offered by Lauren’s niece. There were over 100 guests and we enjoyed roast turkey, trimmings and then dancing. I had a thoroughly good time.
Next Thursday, Thanksgiving day, Kunthary and Edmond, my Washington DC sponsors, have invited me to a traditional family dinner offered by their friends. Their sharing this meal together is a tradition that goes back 35 years!
Then on Friday and Saturday I will be visiting Philadelphia, a guest of IKARE at a Thanksgiving event for the local Khmer community. I have volunteered to help sell souvenirs and, hopefully, to sing a few songs with the band that will be performing that evening. An opportunity for me to see how my fellow countrymen celebrate thanksgiving and to make new friends.
